Staten Island, NY - The Wagner Seahawk swim team took part in the Nutmeg Invitational this past weekend held at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. The competition took place in the legendary Kiputh Exhibition pool. Battling against a host of top schools from the Northeast area the Green & White turned in several solid performances over the course of the two day meet.
Alexandra Tomlinson (Telford, PA/Souderton) led Wagner with a first place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle, the first time this season the Seahawks have swam that event. Other impressive finishes included the quartet of Alyssa Montgomery (Yucaipa, CA/Redlands), Molly McDonald (Hickory, NC/Seton Home School), Brigitta Roser (Ithaca, NY/Lansing), and Halley Allen (Bryan, TX/Bryan) turning in a fourth place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:41.63.
Junior Kate Wilson (Brentwood, CA/San Francisco St. U.) tallied a fourth place finish in the 500-yard freestyle registering a time of 5:09.89. Eileen Dowd (Wethersfield, CT/Wethersfield) landed in seventh place in the 200-yard IM at 2:14.18. Another seventh place finish came in the 19th event when Montgomery clocked a time of 1:57.58 in the 200-yard freestyle.
The Seahawks finished the meet strong with an impressive showing in the 200-yard butterfly. Sophomore Jess Radka (Mohnton, PA/Holy Name) turned in her best time of the year at 2:10.44, which was good for third place. Additionally, Tomlinson pulled out a sixth place finish at a time of 2:11.88, also her top time thus far.
Wagner is next in action this Saturday, December 10 when they host Columbia at 1pm.
