Staten Island, NY -The Wagner women's soccer team recorded their first victory of the season this afternoon with a thrilling come from behind 3-2 win against Robert Morris University at the Wagner Lower Athletic Field. With the win the Seahawks improve to 1-9-1 and 1-3 in the Northeast Conference (NEC) while the Colonials drop to 2-8-2 and 0-4 in the NEC.
Robert Morris jumped out to an early 2-0 first-half lead as they scored two goals in the game's first 20 minutes. Christina Nicholson scored her first goal from about 12 yards out in the game's 14th minute and then found the back of the net once again from about 15 yards out on the right side in the 20th minute.
Wagner fought back putting one on the board in the 36th minute when senior Betty Ann Rogers (Mt. Holly, NJ/George School) took a pass on the right side from junior Lizzie Wood (Boca Raton, FL/St. Andrews) and knocked in her first goal of the year.
The Seahawks tied the contest in the 48th minute when freshman Stephanie Burnett (Coco Beach, FL/Satellite) scored her first collegiate goal on a header off a corner kick from Wood.
In the game's 77th minute, sophomore Danielle Telleria (Orlando, FL/Winter Springs) gave the Seahawks an insurmountable 3-2 lead when she scored her first marker of the year from three yards out off a pass from Rogers.
Junior Ashley Wilson (Secane, PA/Upper Darby) made nine saves on the afternoon for the green and white picking up her first win of the year while improving to 1-4 on the season. Jessica Onufer recorded six saves in defeat for the Colonials as she drops to 2-7 on the year.
Wagner returns to action Friday, Oct. 14 when the Seahawks hit the road to take on Mount St. Mary's.
