Staten Island, NY - For the second straight day the Wagner College women's tennis team was defeated in a non-conference tennis match, this time losing to Manhattan College 6-1.
The Jaspers were winners in every match but forfeited two points due to defaults. Manhattan got off to the hot start when Jennifer Fowler blanked Sophomore Katy Carey (Montclair, VA/University of Miami HS) 6-0, 6-0. The Seahawks looked to rebound when Brittany Frazza (West Caldwell, NJ/Morris Catholic) pushed Lindsey Keeler to an extra frame, but it wasn't enough as Frazza fell 6-0, 2-6, 10-8. The Jaspers then went on a run. Casey Conklin downed Megan Owen (Central Islip, NY/Central Islip) 6-1, 6-1, Patrice Riley did likewise to Aarti Mahtani (Montego Bay, JA/St. Andrew's) 6-2, 6-2, and Men Nguyen out dueled Marie Crane (Chesire, CT/Chesire) 6-2, 6-2. The final singles match went to the Seahawks as Emily Boyd (Stratham, NH/Exeter Area) was victorious over Lindsey Sengnola who defaulted with an injury.
In doubles play Wagner struggled as well. Carey and Frazza were defeated by Keeler and Conklin 8-5, and Owen and Mahtani lost to Fowler and Riley 8-2. Wagner notched a win in the last doubles on a default.
The Seahawks are next in action this Sunday October 9 at St. Peter's in Jersey City, NJ. The match is set for a 10 am start.
