Staten Island, NY - It was a tough outing for the Wagner College women's tennis team as they were blanked by the Drexel University Dragons 7-0.
Drexel won every match played except one doubles contest en route to the victory. Emily Lewis started things off for the Philadelphia based school with a win over Katy Carey (Montclair,VA/University of Miami HS) 6-2, 6-4. Melissa Lewis then outlasted Brittany Frazza (West Caldwell, NJ/Morris Catholic) 6-4, 6-3 and then the Dragons took off. Hara Stecova ran past Megan Owen (Central Islip, NJ/Central Islip) 6-0, 6-1, Jaimee Wylie downed Aarti Mahtani (Montego Bay, JA/St. Andrews) 6-0, 6-1, Kristy Pron danced past Emily Boyd (Stratham, NH/Exeter Area) 6-1, 6-0 and Ali Bacall closed things out against Kimberly Pecinovsky (Plympton, MA/Silver Lake Regional) winning 6-0, 6-1.
In doubles play the Seahawks looked to get back on track as Carey and Frazza dropped the Lewis' 8-3. After that Drexel regrouped; Stecova and Pron upended Owen and Mahtani 8-4, and Wylie and Jen Rimmey cruised past Boyd and Pecinovsky 6-1.
