Staten Island, NY - It was a banner day for the Wagner women's swimming team as they kicked off their season with a bang knocking off St. Francis (NY) and St. Francis (PA) out in Loretto, Pennsylvania earlier this afternoon. The Green & White rolled the Terriers of St. Francis (NY) by a count of 157-42 and took down the host Red Flash of St. Francis (PA) 123-80.

Wagner got out of the gates early taking the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:53.97 by the quartet of Alyssa Montgomery (Yucaipa, CA/Redlands), Amanda Males (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg), Jess Radka (Mohnton, PA/Holy Name), and Hally Allen (Bryan, TX/Bryan). The second event proved to be another win for the Seahawks this time in the 1,000 yard freestyle with freshman Alexandra Tomlinson (Telford, PA/Souderton) clocking a winning time of 10:36.77. Tomlinson would also add a win in the 500-yard freestyle at a time of 5:13.63. In the 200-yard freestyle Shannon Johnston (Cherry Hill, NJ/Bishop Eustace Prep) took top honors with a time of 1:58.62 while in the 50 freshman Michelle Varga (Astoria, NY/Arch Bishop Molloy) took first place at 16:37 while Allen was right behind her in second at 17:33.

Things were just getting started for the Seahawks with the sophomore Radka working her way to a win in the 100-yard butterfly at a time of 59.94 while the veteran and senior Johnston got back in the winners circle taking the 100-yard freestyle at 55.31. Montgomery sealed the deal again this time in the 100-yard backstroke taking first place edging the Red Flash's Alicia Vasiladis with a time of 1:04.23.

The wins signified the first in the career for new Seahawk head coach Sean Raffile. "It was awesome to get the wins, we can chalk this up to some hard work in the last month and we are ready for the duel meet season. We look forward to Vermont on November 11," Raffile said.

The Seahawks are next in action Friday, November 11 with a home meet against Vermont starting at 6pm.
