Seahawks Taken Down by the Pioneers 4-1

Staten Island, NY - Wagner College women's soccer team lost this afternoon to Sacred Heart University by a score of 4-1. The Seahawks are now 2-12-2 overall and 2-5-1 NEC, while the Pioneers improve to 8-8-1 overall and 5-2-1 NEC.

The Pioneers controlled the first half by scoring three of their four points in the first 45 minutes. Sacred Heart's junior Lisa Burbige got the Pioneers started off by scoring on a put back which slid through the goalie's hands after a hard shot. Junior Leslie Morales padded the Pioneers' lead by adding two back to back goals in the 34th and 35th minutes.

Wagner regained their composure in the second half and answered with a goal in the 55th minute by freshman Brianna Victorio (Staten Island, NY / Susan E. Wagner) scoring her first career goal on a ten yard loft shot assisted by senior Betty Ann Rogers (Mt. Holly, NJ / George School).

Sacred Heart added a final goal in the 78th minute with Orlagh Cullen's 33 yard direct kick that flew over the goalie and found the top back of the netting. The Pioneers held a 17-9 shot advantage, while Wagner led in corner kicks 3-2.

Senior Recognition Day is this Sunday when the Seahawks play there final regular season game against Fairleigh Dickinson scheduled for a 1:00 pm start time.
