Wagner Corrals Monmouth With 1-1 Tie in Double Overtime

West Long Branch, NJ - Wagner College women's soccer extended their unbeaten streak to three straight in conference play today after tying Monmouth 1-1. The Seahawks now stand at 2-9-2 overall; 2-3-1 NEC as the Hawks move to 4-5-3 overall; 2-1-1 NEC.

After a scoreless first half, Monmouth's senior Tara Froehlich scored right out of the gates to start the second half with a cross over the goalie's head in the 47th minute. Although Monmouth doubled Wagner's shots on goal (22-9), the Seahawks were not leaving West Long Branch without a fight.

With 1:51 left in the game, freshman Stephanie Burnett (Coco Beach, FL / Satellite) scored her second goal of the year by blasting a shot into the far right netting to tie the game and send it to extra quarters. Freshman Leslie Reed (Indian Harbour Beach, FL / Satellite) shut out the Hawks in double overtime as she collected four saves in goal.

The Seahawks are currently ranked sixth in the NEC and will return to action this Friday at home against third ranked LIU at 3:00 pm.
