Emmitsburg, MD - Senior Betty Ann Rogers' (Mt. Holly, NJ/George) second goal in as many games propelled the Wagner Seahawks to a 1-0 win over rival Mount St. Mary's in Northeast Conference (NEC) soccer action today in Emmitsburg, MD. With the win the Seahawks extend their winning streak to two games while winning back-to-back games for the first time since the 1997 season. Wagner moves to 2-9-1 overall and 2-3 in the NEC while Mount St. Mary's falls to 4-7-2 overall, 0-3-1 NEC.
Rogers scored the game-winning goal in the 54th minute from six yards out off a centering pass from freshman Stephanie Burnett (Coco Beach, FL/Satellite). From that point on the defense took over as they held Mt. St. Mary's scoreless while extending their shutout streak to three halves. Junior Ashley Wilson (Secane, PA/Upper Darby) recorded five saves in collecting her first shutout of the year, while improving to 2-4.
Wagner outshot Mount 15-12 in an evenly contested game and was extremely aggressive as they committed 14 fouls to Mount's six.
The Seahawks will be in action at Sunday, Oct. 16 at 1 p.m. when the green and white make the short drive to West Long Branch, NJ to take on Monmouth.
