Opened in 1997 as part of a $13 million investment by Wagner College, the Spiro Sports Center serves as the hub for many of the college’s athletic programs.
Upon entering the facility, visitors are welcomed by the main basketball gymnasium, a modern fitness center, an aerobics studio, and a viewing deck that overlooks the aquatics center.
The lower level houses the Gregory P. Knapp ’65 Strength Room and provides direct access to the pool deck.
The top floor features administrative and coaching offices for several athletic programs, along with the Hall of Fame Room and a VIP Room that offers an exclusive view of the gymnasium.
Spiro Sports Center Gymnasium
The central feature of the Spiro Sports Center, the gymnasium is home to Wagner’s men’s and women’s basketball programs, as well as men’s and women’s fencing. The full seating capacity holds 2,100 spectators and with seating retracted, the gym has two additional multipurpose courts that can be used for basketball or intramural sports.Â
In addition to hosting athletic events, the gym also hosts interdepartmental events and commencement ceremonies.Â
Spiro Sports Center Pool
Home to Wagner’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams as well as the College’s men’s and women’s water polo teams, the Spiro Sports Center Pool is a six-lane, 25-yard pool to fall within the NCAA’s regulation size.Â

Gregory P. Knapp '65 Strength Room
Gregory P. Knapp '65 Strength Room is a 3,076-square-foot facility on the basement level of the Spiro Sports Center. Home to the strength and conditioning program that services each of Wagner’s 26 varsity sports, the facility was dedicated in December 2009.Â
A significant undertaking that provided significant benefit to the entire athletic department, Dr. Thomas G. Moles ’65, a lifetime member of the Wagner College Board of Trustees and former Seahawk football player, was the primary donor in this project that was realized due to the generosity of a number of donors. Dr. Moles made a major gift towards the project in the name of his good friend, the late Gregory Knapp ’65. Knapp, who passed away in July, 2009 was also a lifetime member of the Wagner College Board of Trustees and a former Seahawk football letter winner.Â
Spiro Sports Center Fitness Center
Open to the Wagner College community as part of the Spiro Sports Center’s many amenities, the fitness center caters to both the athletic and recreational needs of its users. Located on the ground floor of the Spiro Sports Center, the fitness center features a large cardiovascular area with treadmills, elliptical machines, stair machines, rowing machines, body treks, as well as upright and recumbent stationary bikes.Â
A separate free weight section with Cybex training equipment includes a Smith Machine and squat racks. A large stretching area equipped with floor mats and ab rollers completes the center.

Spiro Sports Center Aerobics Studio
The aerobics studio is a facility utilized by dance classes offered through the College’s Theatre Department. Located on the ground floor of the Spiro Sports Center, the studio features hardwood floors, mirrored walls, ballet barres and a piano to accommodate any potential needs for each individual class.Â
