Obie Nwadike

Obie Nwadike begins his first season as a member of the Wagner men’s basketball staff as the Seahawks’ graduate manager.

Nwadike arrives on Grymes Hill after working with the Saint Anthony High School Friar Nation U17 Varsity Team and as a substance abuse social worker for the Connecticut Junior Republic.

The Jersey City native started four seasons at Central Connecticut from 2003-2007 while establishing himself as one of the top rebounders in school history. As a senior, he averaged 14.4 points and 10.6 rebounds per game while recording 18 double-doubles en route to earning First Team All-NEC Accolades. Nwadike also ranked eighth nationally on the glass and converted a school-record 191 free throws while helping lead the Blue Devils to the NEC Regular Season and Tournament Championships. He then capped his collegiate career against eventual national finalist Ohio State in the NCAA Tournament.

For his career, Nwadike notched 11.5 points and 8.9 rebounds per game, including averaging double-figures in scoring and rebounding over his final two campaigns, while ranking 20th in CCSU annals with 1,265 points, sixth with 980 rebounds and tied for second with 427 free throws. Additionally Nwadike's 980 caroms are fourth in NEC history and he had 40 career double-doubles and 49 games with at least 10 caroms.

Following his playing days with the Blue Devils, Nwadike played four professional seasons for teams in Luxembourg and Spain. He capped his career by ranking among the top-10 rebounders in the EBA Spanish League for C.B. Jovent Basquet.

Nwadike, who has also worked as a camp counselor for the Hoop Group and Five Star, played his prep ball at St. Anthony High School under the direction of legendary Hall of Fame coach Bob Hurley, helping the Friars to two-straight New Jersey State Tournament of Champions Titles and a No. 2 National Ranking by the USA Today.

At Wagner, Nwadike will be pursuing his master’s degree in education after graduating from Central Connecticut with a bachelor’s degree in sociology.
