Bobby Hurley is in his second season as an assistant coach at Wagner College after helping lead the Seahawks to an eight-win improvement a year ago.
No stranger to success as a player, Hurley was an All-American player at Duke University before graduating to the NBA where he was a lottery pick of the Sacramento Kings in the 1993 NBA Draft.
Hurley helped the Green & White guards improve drastically in his season in 2010-2011, helping mentor rising senior Chris Martin, rising senior Tyler Murray and rising sophomore Latif Rivers into one of the most feared guard trios in the league. Murray raised his scoring average by over eight points per game en route to earning All-Northeast Conferenced (NEC) First Team honors. Martin made the transition from shooting guard to point guard and directed a team that finished fourth in the NEC in scoring (67.6 ppg) after finishing 10th (60.8 ppg) the prior year. And last but not least Rivers, who finished second on the team in scoring en route to a spot on All-NEC Rookie Team as the trio combined to account for 59.5 percent of the team's scoring.

Arguably one of the finest point guards in college basketball history, his 1,076 assists rank him as the all-time assist leader in NCAA history. From 1989-1993, Hurley was a point guard for Duke. He was named first-team All-American in 1993, went to the Final Four three times, and led the Blue Devils to consecutive national championships in 1991 and 1992, earning Final Four MVP honors in 1992. His Duke jersey number 11 was retired in 1993. In 2002, Hurley was named to the 50th Anniversary men's basketball team as one of the 50 greatest players in Atlantic Coast Conference history. Hurley was also voted into the Duke Athletics Hall of Fame and entered alongside his former coach and mentor Mike Krzyzewski on Friday, September 9, 2011 at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
“Bobby was the best point guard that I ever coached and I have no doubt that he will be a great addition to the Wagner staff,” said Krzyzewski. “To have Danny and Bobby together will be like watching St. Anthony’s and that is a good thing. I am sure he will do a great job there.”
Hurley played six seasons in the NBA for the Sacramento Kings and Vancouver Grizzlies. After retiring, he went on to become a thoroughbred racehorse owner and breeder before being hired as a scout by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2003.
“I’m very excited to add Bobby to our staff,” said head coach Dan Hurley. “It’s certainly a unique and special situation to have your brother on the same staff. Bobby has a lot to offer our players as both a role model and a mentor. He will relate very well with our players, has tons of knowledge about the game, and he shares my vision for success here at Wagner.”
During his scholastic playing days, Hurley starred at St. Anthony High School in Jersey City, playing for his father, Bob Hurley, Sr., a legendary coach who was enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame this summer. While at St. Anthony, from 1985 to 1989, Hurley led the Friars to four consecutive Parochial B state titles. In his senior year, he guided the St. Anthony to a perfect 32-0 record, the school's first Tournament of Champions crown, and the No. 1 ranking in the nation. In his high school career, the team's overall record with Hurley, Jr. as point guard was 115-5.
Hurley and his wife Leslie are the proud parents of Cameron, Sydney and Bob.
