The men’s and women’s fencing teams hired Bernardo Cisternas as its new assistant Epees coach in September 2025. Cisternas joins the Seahawks with over 20 years of Foil and Epee coaching experience under his belt.
In 2002, he started as an assistant coach for the Foil section of the Chilean national fencing team, before being promoted to the head Foil coach in 2007. After a three-year coaching stint at the Circolo Ravennate della Spada in Italy, Cisternas spent nine years coaching at the Recreation and Sports Institutes of Bogota and Medellin in Colombia.
After coming over to the States, Cisternas joined the South Brooklyn Fencing Club in 2022 as a beginner’s coach, then took the same position at the PISTE Fencing Academy a year later, where he still coaches through private and group lessons.
