Julian Harvey

Harvey arrives on Grymes Hill from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE), where he was a decorated member of the track & field program for the Cougars.

In 2018, Harvey earned Second Team All-American distinction after placing 12th in the long jump (25-5.5) at the NCAA Championships while also collecting Honorable Mention All-American status in the high jump. He qualified for the NCAA Championship in the high jump after clearing 7’1 and finishing third at the NCAA West Regional. At the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC), he went on to be named Co-Field Athlete of the Year and OVC Championship MVP after placing first in the long and triple jumps, second in the high jump and third in the 100m.

A year prior, he won the long jump at the OVC Indoor Track and Field Championship with a leap of 8.17m, the longest jump by an American during the season and No. 1 in the world at the time. Harvey would go on to receive two All-American accolades in the long jump and high jump, respectively. At season’s end, he received the Midwest Region Field Athlete of the Year by the USTFCCCA.

In all, Harvey was a three-year team captain, a six-time NCAA Division I All-American, an 11-time OVC champion, four-time Athlete of the Year selection. In 2016, he was selected as U.S. Olympic Trail Qualifier.

In addition to competing on the track, Harvey was a five-year member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) at Southern Illinois and served as a conference representative from 2014 to 2018.

In 2016, Harvey was selected by the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) to represent the conference at the NCAA Leadership Development summit, where he would learn about leadership qualities throughout all three divisions.
Harvey got his first chance at coaching as a volunteer assistant track & field coach at the University of Wisconsin. In Madison, he coached both the sprinting and jumping events for both the men’s and women’s program. As a Badger, he implemented a tier-system strategy used for preseason recruiting and visits during the fall. Harvey also has obtained a Master’s Degree in exercise and sport psychology from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
