Jim Gibbons was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Academics and Compliance in January, 2011 after spending 11 seasons as an assistant football coach at Wagner.
“Jimmy (Gibbons) did an outstanding job as our offensive and recruiting coordinator and is moving into an important administrative role within the athletic department where he will continue to work closely with the football program,” said Wagner Athletic Director/Head Football Coach Walt Hameline.
Gibbons served as offensive coordinator for the Seahawks from 2005-2010. In 2009, the Seahawk offense ranked No.1 in the NEC in scoring offense at 30.7 points per game, a figure that ranked 21st nationally.
In 2005, his first year as the Seahawks offensive coordinator, Wagner set a school record with 4,418 yards gained including 3,332 passing yards. The team led the NEC with 302.9 passing yards per game and finished second in scoring with 26.1 ppg. Gibbons also oversaw the coordination of the Wagner’s overall recruiting efforts.
Prior to Wagner, Gibbons spent two seasons at Northeast Conference rival Sacred Heart University. Before his time at SHU, he was an assistant coach at Yale for the offensive line and tight ends.
During the 1995 and 1996 seasons, Gibbons headed up the offensive line at Sacred Heart. In addition to his on field duties, he was responsible for the strength and conditioning program.
Gibbons spent his playing days as a member of the Sacred Heart University football team and has the distinction of playing on the school's inaugural football team in 1991.In a career that spanned from 1991-94, he spent two season serving as team captain.
In 1995, Gibbons earned a bachelor’s degree fin Sociology before going on to complete a Master’s Degree in Education in 1998.
He and his wife Julianne have four children - Emily (14) , GraceAnn (2) and one-year old twins James and Julianna.
