Marcus Edwards, who served as an assistant coach at Wagner from 2009-2011, returns to Grymes Hill after spending two seasons on the staff at Bowling Green State University.
Bowling Green enjoyed tremendous success during Edwards; two seasons there as the Falcons made an appearance in the 2012 Military Bowl, played at Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium in Washington, DC, followed by an appearance in the 2013 Little Ceasers Bowl. Held at Ford Field, in Pontiac, MI, which is the home field of the NFL’s Detroit Lions, this 2013 Ceasers Bowl was a reward for winning the 2013 Mid-American Conference (MAC) Championship.
In Edwards’ two seasons at Bowling Green, the Falcons were a combined 18-8 (.692), having gone 8-5 in 2012, followed by a 10-3 campaign last season.
While at Bowling Green, Edwards played a prominent role on the Falcons’ coaching staff, heading up the coaching duties for the wide receivers and punt returners and tutored a pair of All-Mid-American Conference (MAC) performers at Bowling Green in punt return specialist Ryan Burbrink and wide receiver Shaun Joplin.
In 2013, Joplin hauled in 54 passes for 908 yards, a 16.8-yard average per catch, and three touchdowns. Burbrink, meanwhile, led the Falcons with 12 punt returns for 103 yards in 2013.
During his first tenure at Wagner, Edwards tutored a host of talented receivers, including 2010 graduate Tyrone Collins, who signed a free agent contract with the CFL’s Calgary Stampeders as All-Northeast Conference wide receiver David Crawford.

A productive and reliable wide receiver in his own right during his collegiate career at the University of South Florida, Edwards hauled in 73 passes for 928 yards and three TDS from 2005-2008 for the Bulls. During his senior season, he played in all 13 games with eight starts and caught 19 passes for 259 yards. His top season statistically was his sophomore year of 2006 when he snared 27 receptions for 328 yards.

A native of Mayo, FL, Edwards earned a communications degree in 2007 from USF and was a two-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star Team member. He earned a Master’s Degree at Wagner in 2011.
