Malik Hall

Malik Hall is in his second stint at Wagner and enters his fourth season overall on the Seahawk sideline.

In 2010, his first as the Green & White's Defensive Coordinator, Wagner saw a marked improvement in all facets of the defense. He then coached at UMass, in 2011, before returning as the Wagner Defense Coordinator in 2012.

In 2013, Hall’s defense was led by outside linebacker Trevor Loveland, the only student-athlete to hail from a NEC program among the 43 members of the Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA) Academic All-Star Team. The 6-3, 230-pound Loveland, who returns to the 2014 team as a fifth-year senior, led the 2013 team with 69 tackles, while registering a team-best 12.0 tackles for loss for minus 33 yards. He also recorded three sacks for minus 12 yards and was credited with two forced fumbles, one pass breakup and one blocked kick.

Hall also tutored 2013 Second-Team All-NEC defensive lineman Fidel Okoye, who his primed for a breakout season as a junior in 2014.

In 2012, Hall was the mastermind behind the NEC’s No. 1 defense, spearheading Wagner to the 2012 NEC title and a second-round NCAA FCS Playoff appearance.

Statistically, the numbers produced by the 2012 defense reflect both dominance and balance as the Seahawks led the NEC in scoring defense (16.3) and total defense (312.2) and pass defense efficiency (115.1) while ranking second in pass defense (168.2) and third in rushing defense (144.0).  

Individually, Hall developed three Second-Team All-NEC performers in linebacker C.O. Prime, safety Sidiq Soulemana and cornerback Torian Phillips, well as 2013 College Sports Journal Freshman All-American Daevonte Barnett.

During his tenure with the Seahawks, Hall has seen four of his pupils sign NFL free agent contracts. C.O. Prime became the latest NFL player, signing with the Indianapolis Colts., before helping the 2013 Hamilton Tiger-Cats reach the CFL Championship game In 2012, Jeremiah Brown and Julian Stanford inked free agent deals with the Jacksonville Jaguars while Quintin Anderson was picked up by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Stanford then signed a free agent contract with the Detroit Lions in 2013 where he remains a current member of the team.

The Michigan native handles the Seahawk recruiting north of New York City, in Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Dutchess Counties. He also leads Wagner’s efforts in Maryland and Virginia. Hall has also recruited up and down the eastern seaboard as well as in the Midwest (Michigan, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin).

In addition to his time at UMass, Hall has served as an assistant on the staffs at Fordham, Hofstra, and Central Connecticut. In 2006 and 2009, the Detroit, MI, native served as the Defensive Line coach and Special Teams Coordinator at Fordham. During the 2006 season, helped develop a I-AA All-America selection and two All-Patriot League picks.

From 2007-08, he coached the defensive line at Hofstra while also serving as the program’s NFL Liaison.  At Hofstra in 2008, Hall was part of the top-rated passing defense in the Colonial Athletic Conference (CAA). In 2007, Hofstra ranked first in the CAA and 11th in the FCS in rushing defense and second in the conference and 15th in the nation in total defense.

As a collegiate player, Hall helped led UMass to the Atlantic 10 Championship title game as a senior in 2003 when he posted 46 tackles, five for loss, and two sacks. He transferred to UMass in the Spring of 2002 after playing at Vermillion Community College in Ely, MN. He graduated in December 2003 from UMass with a degree in sociology and education.

Hall and his wife Ayesha are the proud parents of Malik and Kayah.
