Silvester Named NEC Special Teams Player of the Week For Second Time This Season
Junior punter/kicker
Eric Silvester was named Northeast Conference (NEC) Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts in Wagner's October 4 game against Monmouth. The Lincondale, NY native stifled Monmouth's return game in Week 6, earning him the league's weekly honor for the second time this season. The do-it-all kicker, who scored 2 points on 2 PATs, punted 10 times, with five kicks resulting in a drive start no better than the 10. Silvester was a big part of Wagner's first half success, pinning the Hawks at the four and ten yard line, respectively, with his first two punts in the opening quarter. Overall, five of Silvester's ten punts were downed inside the Monmouth 20-yard line. Silvester's longest boot of the day came with time winding down in the third quarter in a three-point game, when the junior launched a 55-yard punt to the Monmouth seven yard line, flipping the field and setting up a three and out by the Seahawk defense. On the ensuing offensive drive, quarterback
Christian Alexander-Stevens hit wide-receiver
Jeremiah Lorick for a touchdown. On the night, the junior preseason All-NEC selection also kicked off three times for 146 yards. Previously, Silvester had earned the league's weekly honor following Wagner's game at Florida Atlantic two weeks ago. For his efforts vs. Monmouth, senior running back
Ikechukwu Ogwuegbu was also named an NECPrimePerformer. The senior scored his first collegiate touchdown in a career-high 89-yard rushing performance.
