Ally Alliegro scored three goals apiece and Wagner overcame an early three-goal deficit to force overtime, but Saint Joseph's was able to come away with an 11-10 win when Sinead Brierley converted a free positon shot 5:45 into OT at Hameline Field on Saturday.
With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 4-4 on the season while the Hawks, of the Atlantic 10 Conference, are also 4-4.
After falling behind by a 5-2 count, the Green & White went on a 3-0 run over the final 6:22 of the first half, the first two by Ednie, and the third by Alliegro, in making it a 5-5 game at the break.
After SJU's Ally Beck opened the second half with a score at the 23:45 mark to make it 6-5, the Seahawks recorded consecutive goals by
Meghan Pendergast at 22:53 on a free position shot, followed by an unassisted score from in close by senior attack
Heidi Colford at 18:32, in taking their first lead of the game at 7-6.
The teams then alternated the next six goals, and when Ednie buried her third of the game with 4:06 left, the Seahawks were back in front by a 10-9 count. That's the way the score remained until Brierley scored an unassisted goal for SJU to tie it at 10-10 with 2:33 left in regulation.
Neither team could find the net the rest of the way as the game headed into sudden-death overtime. Following a scoreless three minutes, the teams switched sides of the field for a second three-minute session. With 15 seconds left in the second session, Brierley broke an 8:18 scoreless string by sinking a free position shot, lifting the Hawks to the 11-10 win.
Alliegro was Wagner's leading scorer on the day, with four points, as she added an assist to her hat trick. In addition to her three goals, Ednie scooped up a game-high seven ground balls while adding two caused turnovers.
Freshman midfielder
Erin Kerstetter wound up with two goals while Colford had one. Junior attack
Anna Belle Reilly, coming off a three-goal, three-assist outing in last Sunday's 11-6 victory at Manhattan, supplied one assist.
Sophomore defender
Lindsay Haas (4 CT, 3 GB) and junior defender
Maddie Courtney (3 CT, 5GB) each turned in productive games for the Seahawks.
Both Wagner goalies were sharp in net. Senior
Lucy Darlington recorded six saves, while allowing just five goals, during the first half. Classmate
Kelsey Fee then came on to stop six shots, with just six goals allowed, over the next 35:45, which included the 30-minute second half and 5:45 of overtime.
For Saint Joseph's, the Hawks were paced by Brierley's three-goal effort, Francesca Donato added two, while six different played added one score apiece. In goal, Liz O'Sullivan came up with 13 saves in a route-going 65:45 of action between the pipes.
Saint Joe's held a 33-26 edge in shots, Wagner led in ground balls by a 31-22 count, while the teams were tied at 12-12 on draw controls.
The Green & White close out their mini two-game home stretch on Wednesday, March 28 vs. Columbia, before beginning NEC play at Robert Morris on Friday, April 6.
