Box Score

Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Northeast Conference (NEC) opponent Saint Francis U on Sunday afternoon at Hameline Field.

With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 3-8-3 on the year and 0-3-1 in NEC play, while the Red Flash improves to 7-7-1 on the season, 4-1 in league.

The Seahawks had two attempts in the first half to find the back of the net. Freshman Mya Donnelly (Manalapan, NJ / Manalapan) put herself into a promising scoring position 11 minutes into the contest, but her shot from 15 yards away was saved . Eight minutes later, Donnelly fed classmate Madison Starr (New Canaan, CT / New Canaan) with a through ball, but the first-year Seahawk missed high with her contested shot.

The visitors struck five minutes into the contest, as an unassisted strike from Mariana Jaleca gave the Red Flash a 1-0 halftime lead.

In the second period, freshman Julia Fitzsimmons (Point Pleasant, NJ / Point Pleasant) had the first opportunity for the Seahawks, but her shot sailed high. Starr, as well as sophomores Kaitlyn Ross (Sayville, NY / Sayville), Autumn Clark (Fort Lauderdale, FL / Pine Crest Prep) and Maria Nunez (East Greenwich, RI / East Greenwich), also had shots for the Green and White in the second period, but could not capitalize.

SFU doubled its lead in the 57th minute, as Alyssa McGhee converted a Sara Suler feed for the 2-0 lead, which would prove to be the final score.

Starr led Wagner with three attempts, while Fitzsimmons contributed two shots on the afternoon. In goal, sophomore Delaney Beck (Bakersfield, CA / Garces Memorial) led Wagner with seven saves on the afternoon, while junior Katie Viscardi (Hazlet, NJ / Mater Dei Prep) made four saves in the second half.

Up next, the Seahawks travel to Central Connecticut State on Friday night, October 20, for a 7:00 pm kickoff.
