Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Balanced Effort Leads Women's Lacrosse To 15-4 Win Over Central Connecticut

Staten Island, NY - Seniors Gretchen Fay (Spring Lake Heights, NJ/Manasquan), Kimmy Tumolo (Mullica Hill,  NJ/Clearview) and Taylor Pastore (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) tallied a hat trick apiece while classmate Shea Gegan (Belmar, NJ/Manasquan) recorded a school-record 11 caused turnovers in leading Wagner to a convining 15-4 victory over Central Connecticut.

Gegan's 11 caused turnovers were the most in a NCAA Division I game this season and broke her previous career high of eight, which 2015 NEC midfielder of the Year amassed on two occasions as a sophomore in 2014. In addition, she collected a game-high seven groundballs, which was the third-highest output of her career and three shy of the career-high 10 that she scooped up at Columbia (3/27/15).

Senior Tori McGrath (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem Central) added two goals and a game-high three assists while Gegan added one goal and two assists during a well-balanced, across-the-board team victory. Pastore and Tumolo shared game-high honors with four points apiece as both attackers added an assist to their three-goal outings.

Fay buried the first two goals of the contest to spearhead a game-opening 6-0 run. After Central's Elyse Malecki put the Blue Devils on the board with a goal at the 1:06 mark of the first half, Fay completed her hat trick with a score off a McGrath assist with 15 seconds remaining in the half to lift Wagner to a 7-1 lead at the intermission.

The Green & White then continued the onslaught by scoring the first eight goals of the second half in building a 15-1 lead before the Devils knocked in three late scores to fashion the final score at 15-4.

The Seahawks outshot CCSU 31-14, led in groundballs by a 33-23 count, while holding an 11-10 edge in draw controls. With Gegan leading the way, the Green & White forced 21 turnovers while turning the ball over just 10 times themselves. Wagner's pressure defense allowed Central to succeed on just 12-of-19 clears while the Seahawks were 16-of-18 in this category.

Senior goalie Katie Ferraro (Owings Mill, MD/McDonough) notched her second win of the season, recording five saves in the game's first 44:20. Sophomore Lucy Darlington (Timonium, MD/Notre Dame Preparatory) entered the game with 15:40 left to play and came up with two saves.
