Moon Township, PA –
Senior midfielder Shea Gegan (Belmar, NJ / Manasquan) scored a hat trick to lead the Wagner women's lacrosse team to a thrilling 10-9 victory at Robert Morris this afternoon as a three-way tie for first place in the Northeast Conference (NEC) standings between the Seahawks, Colonials and Bryant, is now a two-way tie.

At the beginning of the day, Wagner, Robert Morris and Bryant sported identical 4-1 NEC records which out them in a tie atop the league standings. With Wagner's win over Robert Morris, coupled with Bryant's victory today over LIU Brooklyn, it's now a two-way tie for first at 5-1 between the Seahawks and the Bulldogs, while RMU falls to 4-2.

A Wagner win at Saint Francis U in the regular season finale on Sunday, coupled with a Bryant home loss to Sacred Heart on Sunday, would give the Seahawks the No. 1 seed and home field advantage in the upcoming NEC Tournament. If Bryant defeats SHU, the Bulldogs will claim the regular season crown by virtue of their 7-4 win over Wagner back on April 10.

Today's game was tight throughout and featured six ties and three lead changes. RMU jumped out to an early 3-1 lead before the Seahawks went on a 3-0 run in taking a 4-3 lead before the Colonials countered with a late first-half goal to knot the score at 4-4 at the intermission.

After RMU scored the opening goal of the second half, Wagner answered with a 5-3 run, capped by an unassisted goal by Gegan, that gave the Seahawks a 9-7 lead with 11:37 to play. Reigning NEC player of the Week Jessica Karwacki then answered with an unassisted goal of her own to make it a 9-8 game with 6:29 left.

Then, with 3:52 remaining in regulation play, RMU's Katie Breeze notched another unassisted tally to tie the game at 9-9. That's the way things stood through the final 3:52 of regulation, forcing overtime which, in women's lacrosse, calls for a pair of three-minute sessions.

Neither team could find paydirt throughout the first three-minute session and the first 2:43 of the second session. With Wagner holding a man-up advantage following an RMU yellow card with 59 seconds left, the Seahawks patiently worked the ball around the perimeter before putting the ball in stick of Gegan, their top playmaker.

With 25 seconds left, Gegan darted to her left and deked as if she was heading to the goal, before finding a cutting Streilein in front of the net and the junior quickly fired the ball past goalie Sarah Arnold from five yards out, lifting the Seahawks to victory.

Senior midfielder Gretchen Fay (Spring Lake Heights, NJ / Manasquan) and senior attacker Tori McGrath (Delmar, NY / Bethlehem Central) added two goals each for Wagner while Streilein and sophomore midfielder Lauren Ednie (Verona, NJ / Verona) chipped in with one goal apiece.

Breeze and Dana Davis led RMU with two goals each.

Seahawk senior goalie Katie Ferraro (Owings Mill, MD / McDonogh) came up with nine saves while Arnold was credited with thee for the Colonials.
