Loretto, PA – In the 2016 season finale, the Wagner women's soccer team suffered a 5-0 defeat at Saint Francis U on Sunday afternoon at Stokes Soccerplex.

The Seahawks fell behind early on goals by Sara Suler, Alyssa McGhee and Siobhan Bross, as the Red Flash took a 3-0 lead. The Green and White tried to answer, but senior midfielder Megan Fritz, (Cape Coral, FL / Mariner),  who recently earned a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team, could not get her shot past SFU's Julia Hernan in goal, who stopped the attempt 25 minutes into the game.

Wagner's first opportunity of the second half came three minutes into the period, when freshman forward Autumn Clark (Fort Lauderdale, FL/Pine Crest Prep) had her first shot of the day, but Hernan in goal made the save to keep the Seahawks off the board. The Red Flash added goals by Leah Hardin and Shannon McGinnis to make the score 5-0 in favor of Saint Francis U.

Two minutes before the end of regulation, Fritz had two more opportunities for the Seahawks. First, the senior captain headed the ball on goal, but her attempt was saved. One minute later, Fritz rocketed the ball on goal with just seconds on the clock, but could not get the ball past Hernan.

Fritz led the team with three shots, with Clark contributing one attempt, while senior Kaitlyn Murphy (Metuchen, NJ / Metuchen) and junior Kaitlyn Flaherty (Southfield, MI / Wylie Groves), who saw her first action of the season, combined for nine saves in goal.

The Seahawks finish the season with a record of 3-15-0, including a 2-6-0 record in Northeast Conference (NEC) play, while the Red Flash improved to 8-11-0 on the year and qualified for next week's conference tournament.
