Staten Island, NY – The Wagner women's soccer team mounted a late comeback when freshman defender Peyton Beck (St. Louis, MO/Webster Groves ) scored on a penalty kick opportunity, but couldn't find a second goal in a 2-1 loss to Ivy League member, Cornell on Sunday afternoon.

With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 1-8-1, while the Big Red remain undefeated with a 8-0-2 record.

Trailing 2-0 with just nine minutes left of regulation, Beck netted her second goal of the season off of a penalty kick, which was the first goal Cornell conceded all year to make it 2-1.

Cornell struck first, scoring in the 20th minute from a quick shot to the low left side of the net by Paige DeLoach, who was up in the box to lift the Big Red 1-0. Her unassisted goal was her third of the season.

Wagner made a few dangerous runs and had opportunities bur were unable to tie it up when Cornell got lucky with a shot off of the crossbar from Meera Marhoefer to make it 2-0 in the 52nd minute.

Senior midfielder Johanna Konrad (Volkach, Germany/LSH) set up an opportunity where she dribbled the ball up the field, crossed it to the front of the net to junior midfielder Syndey McNutt (Hatboro, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) who got a shot off of it but was saved by Cornell goalkeeper Kelsey Tierney.

Junior forward Diana Saber (Syosett, NY/Syosett) also made a run when she faced two defenders, got through and took a hard shot but just missed, hitting the netting of the outside of the net.

Freshman Katie Viscardi (Hazlet, NJ/Mater Dei Prep) made her first collegiate appearance between the pipes, playing the entire 90 minutes and making four tough saves.

Wagner will close its four-game home stand at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 2, with its first Northeast Conferenece (NEC) contest against Robert Morris under the lights.
