In falling to the Blue Devils, the Seahawks conclude their 2015 season after snapping a three-game win streak while being just one win away from clinching a berth to the NEC tournament for the second year in a row.
Wagner concludes its season 5-12-1 overall (4-4 NEC), while the Blue Devils conclude their season as well 8-5-4 overall (3-3-2 NEC).
The action came in the second half as the two teams played a scoreless back-and-forth affair in the first 45 minutes.
Wagner senior midfielder
Johanna Konrad (Volkach, Germany/LSH) wasted no time after the horn blew for the second half. The midfielder found the back of the net in the 58th minute after she was fed a pass from sophomore forward
Kayla Bertolino (Medford, NJ/Shawnee). Bertolino was credited with her first assist of the season while Konrad picked up her third goal of the season.
Central Connecticut responded just six minutes later in the 64th minute to tie it up 1-1. The Blue Devils shot was deflected and crossed just over the goal line to even the score. CCSU then began to gain momentum and put pressure on the Seahawk defense creating a few opportunities but were denied by Seahawk freshman goalkeeper
Katie Viscardi (Hazlet, NJ/Mater Dei Prep).
However, with just three minutes remaining in the second half, the Blue Devils were in the Seahawk box and created a series of three opportunities right in a row. With the scramble and chaos in front of the net, one shot was able to get past Viscardi to give the Blue Devils a late 2-1 lead, which would become the eventual game winning goal.
