Hampton, VA- The Wagner College wrestling team finished 1-2 in the annual Virginia Duals Tournament Friday afternoon at the Hampton Convention Center. Senior Sean Quinn (Beach Haven, NJ / Southern Regional) and Junior Nick Keshecki (Jackson, NJ / Jackson Memorial) each went 3-0 in the meet.
The Seahawks began their day with a loss to Gannon University 41-6, and then fell in a hard-fought battle to The Apprentice School 24-20. However, they were able to rebound and finish the competition with an exceptional win over St. Andrews College 31-12.
At 165-pounds, Quinn went undefeated as he earned wins against Gannon's Ted Hoag 6-2, The Apprentice School's Will Harcum 16-4, and St. Andrew's Mike Frazzitta 13-6. At 133-pounds, Keshecki had a sensational day, notching three decisions against Gannon's Ed Marshall 2-1, The Apprentice School's Tywana Holley 10-9, and St. Andrew's Casey Gashaw 5-4.
Long Island native, Tyler Harmer (Islip Terrace, NY / East Islip) garnered his first career win at 149 pounds at the Duals pinning St. Andrew's Brad McKee in 4:29. Freshman Ryan Malloy (Staten Island, NY / St. Joseph by the Sea) notched his second win of the season at 174 pounds vs. St. Andrew's Troy Baranik by major decision, 14-3.
At 184 pounds, sophomore Peter Morano (New Canaan, CT / New Canaan) picked up a win, defeating The Apprentice School's Quentin Bowling in a 9-3 decision. Freshman Nick Dalcero (Atlantic Beach, FL / Fletcher) also picked up a win at 157 pounds, defeating The Apprentice School's Beaufort O'Bryant 11-3.
The Seahawks return to the mat January 16-17 when they travel to SUNY Oswego to compete in the New York State Collegiate Championships.
