Seahawks Set School Record With 25th Win In 8-0 Victory Over Sacred Heart

Piscataway, NJ - Sophomore Kyle Morrison (Middlesex, NJ / Immaculata) struck out eight over 7.0 shutout innings in leading Wagner to its school-record 25th win with a 8-0 victory in game one of today's doubleheader at Bainton Field. The offense also had a big game striking for eight runs on the strength of 12 hits, including three home runs.

The Seahawks are now 25-25 and 15-10 in the Northeast Conference (NEC) while also matching their previous NEC-best for conference-wins. Sacred Heart falls to 11-39 and 9-16 in the conference.

Sophomore Damian Csakai (Freehold, NJ / Freehold) staked Wagner to the early lead in the bottom of the first. Csakai lead off with a double before stealing third with one out. Classmate Vin Avella (Matawan, NJ / CBA) brought Csakai around with a RBI ground out to make it 1-0 Wagner.

In the bottom of the third, sophomore Joe Conforti (Staten Island, NY / Farrell) crushed his second home run of the year, a two-out solo-blast to right field, extending the lead out to 2-0.

Avella made it 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth with a mammoth two-run home run to left field.

In the bottom of the sixth, Conforti laced a one-out RBI-single before Avella followed with a RBI-double to make it 6-0 Wagner.

Junior Chris Drechsel (Cranford, NJ / Cranford) capped the scoring with his first home run of the year, a two-run shot to left field, in the bottom of the eighth providing the final 8-0 margin.

Avella went 3-4 with his 10th home run of the year, a double and four RBI. Conforti was 2-4 with a home run, three runs and two RBI while Martutartus and Boyd each also recorded two hits.

Morrison yielded just three hits and one walk while retiring the final nine batters he faced in improving to 5-4. During NEC-play, he is 5-2 with a 1.77 ERA over 40.2 innings of work.

Chris Barthel took the loss, striking out three while yielding six runs over 6.1 innings of work.
