Final Stats

Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College men's lacrosse team scored a season-high eight goals but it was not enough as the Seahawks dropped a 16-8 decision to first-place Canisius at Wagner Stadium.

With the win, the Golden Griffons improved to 6-3 on the season and are now a perfect 5-0 in MAAC play while the Seahawks fell to 0-10, 0-4 in the MAAC.

Canisius jumped out to a an early 5-1 lead before the Seahawks sliced the deficit to 5-3 in the second quarter on goals by freshman midfielder Will Macumber (Manorville, NY/ Eastport South Manor) off an assist by junior middie Jeff Policicchio (Novi. MI/ Novi), and senior attackman Andrew Daly (Jamesville, NY/ Jamesville-DeWitt), off a rebound in front of the cage. For Daly, it was a career day as he finished with two goals while assisting on three others.

Leading 5-3 following the Wagner two-goal rally, Canisius answered with five unanswered goals to seize a commanding 10-3 halftime lead.

Adam Jones and Greg Michael paced scored three goals apiece to lead the Canisius offensive attack while Michael Blocho, Drew Caldiero and Tom Hansel added two goals apiece. The Golden Griffins out-shot Wagner 46-31 and won 17-of-27 faceoffs while the Seahawks held a 27-23 edge in ground balls.

Macumber wound up with two goals for Wagner while Policicchio, senior midfielder Ryan Martin (Florham Park, NJ/ Bayley-Ellard), junior midfielder Brian Poissant (Manlius, NY/ Fayetteville-Manlius) and sophomore midfielder Sean Travis (Calverton, NY/ Riverhead) added one goal each.

Junior goalie Brandon Waszak (Frederick, MD/ Linganore) recorded 10 saves while playing the first three quarters, before giving way to sophomore Matthew McVie (Westbury, NY/ L.I. Lutheran) who came on to save four shots in the fourth quarter.

Wagner is next in action on Wed., April 16 when the Seahawks travel to Riverdale, NY to meet MAAC for Manhattan.
