Final Stats
Staten Island, NY - Junior midfielder Kelly Blundin (Plymouth Meeting, PA/ Plymouth Whitemarsh) delivered her second consecutive six-goal outing and added three assists but Quinnipiac built a 12-5 halftime lead en route to a 23-12 Northeast Conference (NEC) victory.
With the victory, the Bobcats improved to 4-4 on the season, 2-1 in NEC play while the Seahawks fell to 1-8, 1-2 in league play.
Blundin, who also found the net six times in Thursday's game vs. Fairfield, is Wagner's team leader goals (19), assists (13) and points (32).
Wagner took a 1-0 lead just 1:56 into the contest on an unassisted goal by junior attacker Jessica Richmond (Jenkinton, PA/ Jenkintown). After Ashley Valentine notched the first of her five goals to tie the game at 1-1, junior midfielder Cara Gonzalez (Syracuse, NY/ Westhill) put the Seahawks back on top by a 2-1 count off a Blundin assist.
This would prove to be Wagner's last lead of the game, however, as Valentine put the Bobcats ahead for good with a goal at the 22:58 mark of the first half which made it 3-2. The teams scored four goals at the outset of the second half as Quinnipiac maintained its seven-goal halftime edge, at 16-9 following a Katie Latonick goal. The Seahawks countered with consecutive tallies by sophomore midfielders Krista Malayter (Cheshire, CT/ Cheshire) and Terri Noll (Jordan, NY/ Jordan-Elbridge Central) to draw to within five at 16-11 with 15:21 remaining in the game.
The Bobcats responded by out-scoring Wagner 7-1 the rest of the way in pulling away for the 11-goal victory. In addition to Valentine's five-goal outing, Quinnipiac received four-goal efforts from Tiffany Manzi and Nicole Fiore while Kathy Delagi and Lundsey Banach added three goals apiece.
Quinnipiac out-shot Wagner 45-26 and led in ground balls 14-10 while winning 25-36 draw controls. Goalie Hannah Nelson stopped 10 shots for Quinnipiac, including eight in the second half, earning her fourth win of the season. Manzi led the Bobcats with four groundballs and three caused turnovers.
Junior goalie Alex Johnson (Manlius, NY/ Fayetteville-Manlius) recorded 11 saves in the first half for Wagner while junior goalie Amy Jones (Jarretsville, MD/ North Harford) played the entire second half, coming up with five saves.
Wagner returns to action on Fri., April 4 when the Seahawks travel to Mount St. Mary's for a 3:00 pm contest.
