Seahawks Dodge Redlands to 12-11 Win

March 16, 2008

Claremont, CA - Senior Billy Hoelck (San Diego, CA/University of San Diego HS) and junior Nicole Maichrowiz (Temple City, CA/Temple City) led the 6-6 Seahawks water polo team to a 12-11 win against the Redlands Bulldogs for their fourth straight win.

The Hoelck-Maichrowicz offensive tag-team totaled six of the Green & White's 12 total goals as each California native netted three apiece. Hoelck also added two assists to her offensive totals, bringing her career assists total to 101.

The Seahawks were cruising in the west coast breeze as they took a 5-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. Things did not slow down for Wagner as they surged on to score three goals to the Bulldog's one to lead 8-3 going into the second half. But on came Redlands who outscored the Seahawks 4-2 in the third stanza of play. The Bulldogs did not let up in the fourth, as they cut the Green & White lead down to one at 12-11 going into the last minute of play. With eight seconds left, the entire Seahawk bench held their breath as a Bulldog shot headed for the net hit the top cross-bar and landed into the arms of freshman goalie Kristen Spector (Camp Hill, PA/Cumberland Valley) who had three saves on the day.

Seniors Lindsey Rodgers (Anaheim Hills, CA/Fullerton, JC) and Camille Karimzad (Walnut Creek, CA/Campolindo) were as hot as the California sun as they tallied two goals each in the win. Junior Alexandra Tomlinson (Telford, PA/Souderton) and senior Yvette Viramontes (Montebello, CA/Rio Hondo) rounded out the Green & White offense, each netting one as Viramontes dished out two assists while Rodgers nabbed three steals.

This was the Seahawks' first win over Redlands as they are now 1-2 all-time against the Bulldogs. With the win, Wagner is now an even .500 on the year.

Wagner takes on Pomona-Pitzer in the final game of the Claremont Convergence at 6:40 PM PST.
