Wagner Falls At Quinnipiac 79-35

Hamden, CT - Quinnipiac ran past Wagner 79-35 in Northeast Conference (NEC) action at the TD Banknorth Center. With the loss the Seahawks fall to 4-18 and 2-9 in the NEC while the conference-leading Bobcats improve to 18-3 and 10-1.

The Green & White looked good in the early going forcing the Bobcats into two-straight turnovers to start the game while taking a 5-4 lead with 15:49 to go following senior Chelsey Bunyer's (Shannon, IL / Eastland) second basket. Quinnipiac then assumed their first lead of the game with an 8-2 run to make it 12-7 with 12:51 to go. After a pair of free throws sliced the lead to three, the Bobcats took control of the game.

Quinnipiac scored 11-straight points over the next two-plus minutes to go out in front 23-9 with 9:29 remaining in the first. Sophomore Andrea Reed (Pocomoke City, MD / Pocomoke) momentarily stopped the bleeding with a jumper. The Bobcats then proceeded to rip off nine-straight points to cap a 20-2 run and make it 32-11 with 4:51 to go. Wagner would continue to battle but entered intermission down 43-19. In the decisive period, Quinnipiac outscored Wagner 18-6 in the paint and 19-4 in points off turnovers. The Seahawks were also limited to just 28.6 percent (6-21) shooting compared to 44.1 percent (15-34) for the Bobcats.

Things would not get any better for Wagner as Quinnipiac busted off a 24-2 run to start the second half. The Bobcats would push their lead out to 54, the Green & White's largest deficit of the year, before Wagner scored the final 10 points of the game to make the final score 79-35.

Wagner was dominated on the glass by a 59-30 count, including 27-7 on the offensive end, which led to a 38-8 advantage in points in the paint. The Green & White also shot a season-low 25.6 percent (11-43) in losing to the Bobcats for the 11th-straight time. Quinnipiac shot only 39 percent (30-77), but outshot Wagner 77-43 while forcing the Seahawks into 25 turnovers.

Senior Ieva Sulskyte (Vilnius, Lithuania / Daytona Beach CC) led Wagner with seven points. Freshman Ashley Olsen (Staten Island, NY / Notre Dame Academy) also had a team-best seven rebounds with five points. The Seahawks also assisted on all 11 baskets.

Nicole Duperron scored 13 points with a game-high 10 rebounds and Erin Kerner hit for 18 points with five assists to pace Quinnipiac.

Wagner is next in action on Monday at 7 pm when the Seahawks look to sweep the season series from Mount St. Mary's.
