Box Score
College Park, MD - The Wagner water polo team was defeated in their third game of the Terrapin Invitational to the University of Maryland 20-12, falling to 1-5 on the year.
The Seahawk offense struggled getting things going in the first half and fell behind 5-2 in the first quarter and was down 10-3 at the end of the first half. After a quick pep talk and a change in strategy, Wagner came out firing in the third quarter, putting up four goals. But this new surge of energy was not enough to top the Terrapin offense as they were able to match the Seahawks' production, netting four and ending the third quarter with a score of 14-7. In the final stanza of play, Wagner surmounted a charge of five goals but was still not able to keep up with Maryland as the Seahawks ended the match on the wrong side of a 20-12 final score.
Senior Billy Hoelck (San Diego, CA/University of San Diego HS) produced four goals, six steals and drew one ejection to lead Wagner on both ends of the pool while junior Alexandra Tomlinson (Telford, PA/Souderton) found the back of the net three times. The rest of the scoring was spread out between seniors Camille Karimzad (Walnut Creek, CA/Campolindo) and Amber McMichael (Reading, PA/Governor Mifflin), juniors Nicole Maichrowicz (Temple City, CA/Temple City) and Dru Murphy (Keller, TX/Slippery Rock) and freshman Dana DeCinque (Collegeville, PA/The Hill School), all scoring once for the Seahawks.
Wagner will compete next at the ECAC Championships on Saturday, March 1st in Lewisburg, PA.
