Maicrhrowicz Offensive Efforts Not Enough To Thwart Crimson

Feb. 17, 2008

Box Score

Princeton, NJ - In the final game of the Princeton Invitational, the Wagner water polo team dropped their second game of the season to Harvard University 14-13 despite a strong comeback by the Seahawks offense.

The first quarter started slow for Wagner as they fell behind 6-1, but through strong will power and motivation, the Seahawks started to chip away at the five goal deficit in each of the remaining quarters.

In the second stanza, Wagner was able to outscore the Crimson 4-3 with the help of junior Nicole Maichrowicz (Temple City, CA/Temple City) who tallied six total goals in the game. Both defense and offense kept the Seahawks momentum alive in the third quarter, as Wagner kept Harvard to one goal countered with four of their own. But in the end, the Crimson came out victorious by matching the Seahawks fourth goal total at 4, allowing Harvard to come out on top at 14-13.

Despite the loss, senior Billy Hoelck (San Diego, CA/University of San Diego HS) was able to find the back of the net four times while senior Camille Karimzad (Walnut Creek, CA/Campolindo) and freshmen Carina Giles (Mohton, PA/Mifflin) and Laura vanderBent (Shillington, PA/Mifflin) each scored once for the Seahawks. Freshman goalie Kristen Spector (Camp Hill, PA/Cumberland Valley) saved six.

The Seahawks lost their second game of the season while missing key players Alexandra Tomlinson (Telford PA/Souderton) and Lindsey Rodgers (Anaheim Hills, CA/Fullerton JC) as they took part in the NEC Swimming Championships with the Wagner swimming team.

The Seahawks are back in the pool February 20th at 8:00 PM as they take on the Princeton tigers in Princeton, NJ.
