Jacksonville, FL - The Wagner women's soccer team played the Broncos of Western Michigan University to a scoreless 0-0 tie this afternoon in their final game of the University of North Florida tournament held in Jacksonville, Fla. The Broncos added the stalemate to their record (2-2-1) while the Seahawks moved to a mark of 1-3-1.
While the Broncos bested the Seahawks in the overall shot category for the match (9-4), Wagner freshman forward Briana Vassallo (Saddle Brook, NJ/Paramus Catholic) and sophomore midfielder Danielle Sheehan (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) both pulled the trigger twice apiece on goal.
The Seahawks got a scare from Western Michigan in the first half when the Broncos netted a goal past their freshman goalkeeper Samantha Schueschner (Brookfield, CT/Brookfield). Fortunately for Wagner the goal was called back due to offsides.
For Schueschner, it was her second career shutout after she blanked Siena on September 9.
She finished with one save on the afternoon.
Moreover, it was an impressive showing for the Seahawks regardless of any goals scored as they held a Western Michigan team to a zero on the scoreboard, the same team that beat a strong Arkansas Lady Razorback team of the Southeastern Conference 1-0, on September 9.
The Seahawks return home to Staten Island and get ready for their Thursday night match-up in Annapolis when they are hosted by an undefeated Navy team at 7 p.m.
