West Long Branch, NJ --The Wagner College track and field squads wrapped up competition at the 2007 NEC Championships earlier today held at Monmouth University with the women taking seventh place and the men tenth place overall. The women tallied a total of 55 points while the men racked up 16 points.
Looking first at the women it was a solid day for sophomore Brecken Drager (Loomis, CA/Del Oro) as she picked up points in two events grabbing second place in the 1500 meters at 4:40.52 and seventh place in the 5000 meters at 18:03.80. Junior Samantha Snukis (St. Clair, PA/Nativity BVM) turned in a solid run grabbing third place in the 800 meters with a time of 2:19.00.
Sophomore Alaina Alfano (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) picked up fourth in the high jump at 1.61 meters and added to that a fifth place time in the 100 meter hurdles at 15.06. Right behind her in sixth place was senior Noemie Wilson (Windsor, CO/Windsor) with a time of 15.47.
A couple of freshmen found the scoring column for the Green & White as Jenna Naglieri (Stony Point, NY/Rockland) tallied seventh place in the 3000 meter steeplechase at 12:16.12 and Amanda Gland (Woodbury, CT/Nonnewaug) picked up seventh in the triple jump at 10.79 meters. Relays were a success as well for Wagner as the 4x100 took fourth place at 49.14, the 4x800 took fourth place as well at 9:38.88, and the 4x400 took fifth place at 3:58.05. The 4x400 which was run by Snukis, Jocelyn Ford (Neptune, NJ/RBC), Jessica Ford (Neptune, NJ/RBC) and Renee Darmstadt (Kingston, NY/John A. Coleman) also established a school record with their time.
Turning to the men junior Piotr Czech (Keyport, NJ/Keyport) came through in the triple jump picking up fifth place with a mark of 13.65 meters. Classmate Mouhamed Halwani (Staten Island, NY/Xaverian) ran his way to seventh place in the 5000 meters at 15:30.72. Again a couple of freshman made a dent for the Seahawks as James Johnston (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) took eighth in the 3000 meter steeplechase at 9:55.70 and Matthew Villane (Monmouth Beach, NJ/Shore) landed in eighth in the 400 meter hurdles at 1:01.03.
Wagner will be in action next week when athletes that qualifed can take part in the ECAC/IC4A Championships in Princeton, New Jersey.
