Trumbull, CT - Freshman Vin Avella (Matawan, NJ / CBA) provided the hitting and junior lhp Joe Testa (Brick, NJ / Brick) the pitching as Wagner shut down Sacred Heart 11-1 at the Trumbell High School Field earlier today. With the win, the Green & White extends their winning streak to six while improving to 14-26 and 8-9 in the NEC as the Pioneers fall to 19-23 and 9-7 in conference-play. The Seahawks' current six-game winning streak is the longest in head coach Joe Litterio's eight years at Wagner.

Wagner scored their 11 runs on 16 hits as all 10 Seahawks that batted hit safely while the Pioneers were limited to just nine base runners.
In the second inning, Avella put Wagner on the scoreboard with his seventh home run of the season, a one-out solo shot to left field.
The Seahawks would push their lead out to 3-0 in the fourth inning on a two-run single up the middle off the bat of senior Ed Sudol (Wallington, NJ / Wallington) that plated sophomore Peter Delleani (Manalapan, NJ / CBA) and senior Matt Mastrianni (Ringoes, NJ / Hunterdon Central).
Wagner added three runs to the lead in the next inning. With one out, senior Joseph DiGeronimo (Hawthorne, NJ / Hawthorne), Delleani and Mastrianni each singled to load up the bases. Avella then provided the big hit with a bases-clearing double to center field to make it 6-0 Wagner.
The Seahawks tacked on another run in the sixth on a DiGeronimo sacrifice fly that scored senior Pat Rogers (Middletown, NJ / Brookdale CC). Wagner would conclude the scoring with two runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth to win their fifth-straight conference game going away 11-1.
Freshman Kevin Payne (Staten Island, NY / St. Peter's) finished up the game for Wagner throwing the last two frames.
Csakai, DiGeronimo, Delleani, Avella, Sudol and Drechsel all had two hits to lead the Wagner-offense.
Chris Howard struck out eight over 6.0 innings but gave up seven runs, six earned, on 10 hits in falling to 6-5.
