Box Score
Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College men's lacrosse team lost a tough decision today at Wagner College Stadium to the visiting Providence College Friars (1-8, 1-3 MAAC) in a conference match-up by the count of 12-6. The Seahawks now fall to a record of 0-10, 0-3 MAAC on the season.
Wagner suffered a tough first period start offensively after sophomore attack Jeff Policicchio (Novi, MI/Novi) scored the first goal of the game with 14:20 left as that would be the only score the Seahawks would get in the opening period as the trailed 4-1 at the start of the second.
However, a staunch defensive performance and solid goalkeeping by senior Ian Gallagher (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) - who would finish with 12 saves on the day - would keep the game within reach at halftime as the Friars only lead 5-2. Wagner's second goal came off the stick of junior midfielder Ryan Martin (Florham Park, NJ/Bayley Ellard) with only 0:53 left.
Missing a number of their key players, Wagner tried to fight back in the second half but Providence's advantageous depth and scoring allowed for them to form a comfortable lead throughout that would eventually lead to a 12-6 victory in their favor.
Sophomore midfielder Brian Poissant (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) would add two goals and Policicchio would add another - his ninth score of the year - that would make up the offensive production for the Seahawks in the second half.
The Seahawks now get ready to head to Loudonville, New York next Saturday to face a MAAC rival in the Siena College Saints at 2 p.m.
