Staten Island, NY - Poor weather has one again postponed the Seahawks doubleheader against Central Connecticut St. for Monday. No official make up date has been set at this point. Wagner is next scheduled to play on Wednesday at 3:30 pm when Yale comes into Staten Island.
The Seahawks went 1-3 last week losing a non-league doubleheader at Temple on Wednesday and splitting with Quinnipiac on Saturday. Junior Katie Stevens (Reno, NV / Wooster) was the big hitter with a .545 average, including a 5-5 performance in the DH vs Temple. She also hit two doubles and two home runs, including a grand slam in game two vs Quinnipiac. For the week she posted a 1.273 slugging percentage. The third year shortstop now has 148 career hits which moved her into third place all-time on Wagner's career list. She also moved into third place on Wagner's career runs scored list with 87. Another Reno native, freshman Kate Eshelman (Reno, NV / Wooster) continued her dominance of NEC competition throwing her third consecutive shutout against a league opponent with a five inning two hitter vs Quinnipiac on Saturday. Eshelman now has 5 shutouts this year and a 1.75 ERA in the NEC. Junior Victoria Batistelli (Huntington Beach, CA / Huntington Beach) moved into second place on Wagner's career list with a three-run home run vs Quinnipiac that gave her 84 career RBI, leaving her four shy of the all-time mark. To no one's surprise she was hit by five more pitches, extending her NCAA leading total to 27 this year. The 27 HBPs are the third most in a single season in the NCAA Record Books while her 46 career HBPs tie her for fourth all-time. Batistelli was hit the last three times she stepped in the batters box in game two vs Temple and then got plunked twice more vs Quinnipiac on Saturday. After the rain on Sunday and Monday, Wagner is hosting Yale on Wednesday and Monmouth and Mount over the weekend.
