Clearwater, FL - The Seahawks split their games on Friday at the Adidas Invitational earning a 7-4 win over Jacksonville. Wagner now stands at 2-2 on the year having lost 6-5 to Oklahoma St earlier in the day. The Dolphins went to 5-19 with the loss.
The Wagner bats broke out in the second as the Seahawks put up four runs on four hits all with two outs. Freshmen Kate Eshelmen (Reno, NV / McQueen) knocked in the first two runs with a single up the middle and was brought in when senior Christina Hopkins (Edison, NJ / Edison) reached on an error. Junior Katie Stevens (Reno, NV / Wooster) kept the lineup moving with a triple into right that scored Hopkins.
Jacksonville came right back in the top of the third scoring four runs of their own. Ashley Mora brought in two of the runs with a one out triple into right. Junior Ami Iwicki (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) put Wagner back on top 5-4 in the bottom of the inning scoring Batistelli with a double into left.
Wagner then added two insurance runs in the sixth coming in the form of a RBI single from sophomore Andrea Lazzari (Reno, NV / Wooster) and a run scoring double from Batistelli as the Seahawks went on top 7-4.
Eshlemen (1-1) went the first five innings on the mound allowing four runs on five hits with five strikeouts while earning her first career victory. Senior Morgam Miller (Las Vegas, NV / Silverado) took over in the sixth inning retiring all six batters she faced to pick up the save.
Eshelmen and Iwicki each had two hits in the game for the Seahawks.
The Seahawks take the field again tomorrow facing North Carolina at 11:00 am before bracket play begins in the afternoon.
