Hempstead, NY - The Wagner softball team fell twice by counts of 9-1 and 4-1 in a non league double header at perennial NCAA Tournament qualifier Hofstra. The Seahawks leave Long Island with an 8-10 overall mark while the Pride went to 15-11 with the wins.

In the first game, Hofstra started the scoring in the initial inning as Courtney Oliver delivered a two out, run scoring double for a 1-0 advantage. The Seahawks would even the count in the third inning on a RBI single to right by freshman Kate Eshelman (Reno, NV / McQueen). Eshelman brought in senior Natalie Stephens (Jackson, NJ / Jackson) who singled into right and then stole second.

The Pride extended the lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the fourth when Ashley Lane dropped a three run homer over the fence in right.

In the sixth, the infamous hit by pitch streak of junior Victoria Batistelli (Huntington Beach, CA / Huntington Beach) reached 11 consecutive games when she was hit for the 19th time this season. Now with 38 career HBP to her credit, Batistelli is tied for 5th all-time in the NCAA Record Books.

Hofstra would seal the win in the bottom of the six scoring five unearned runs.

Stephens went 3-3 in the game for Wagner, while sophomore Andrea Lazzari (Reno, NV / Wooster) added two singles in three at bats. Junior Morgan Miller (Las Vegas, NV / Silverado) (3-4) was handed the loss for the Seahawks in the circle.

In the second game Pam Dreslinski gave the Pride a 1-0 in the first inning with a solo homer to center field. Junior Katie Stevens (Reno, NV / Wooster) matched that shot with one of her own in the top of the second tying the game at 1-1.

The solo home runs continued in the bottom of the second as Lane put Hofstra back up 2-1 with a line drive shot just over the fence in right center.

The Seahawks put together a scoring chance in the fifth inning putting runners on second and third with one out, but a hard grounder to third and a flyout to right kept the deficit at 2-1.

With the win blowing straight out to center, Oliver hit a two run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Pride lead grew to 4-1.

Eshelman (4-4) was solid on the mound allowing seven hits and the four runs with four strikeouts.

Wagner begins Northeast Conference play at home this Saturday with a 1:00 pm double header against LIU.
