Kissimmee, FL - The Seahawks banged out 10 hits in the game, but it was another dictating performance on the mound by senior Morgan Miller (Las Vegas, NV / Silverado) that led Wagner to a 6-0 victory over Vermont at the Rebel Games. With their third straight win, the Seahawks improve to 5-4 and move over .500 fro the first time this season.
Miller was in complete control on the mound scattering seven hits (all singles) while recording four strikeouts and no walks. She improves to 3-1 on the year with the win and the shutout marked the 13th of her career.
To start the game, senior Natalie Stephens (Jackson, NJ / Jackson) manufactured a run for the Seahawks in the bottom of the first. Stephens drew a leadoff walk, moved on a sacrifice, stole third and then scored on a RBI single from junior Katie Stevens (Reno, NV / Wooster) as Wagner took a 1-0 lead.
Wagner then went up 3-0 in the third behind two out RBI singles into right from junior Ami Iwicki (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) and sophomore Jaclyn Vanore (Palisades Park, NJ / Paramus Catholic).
The Seahawks then added three more runs in the fourth inning to go ahead 6-0. Singles from junior Margaret Gallia (Las Vegas, NV / Community College HS) and senior Christina Hopkins (Edison, NJ / Edison) began the inning and the runners moved into scoring position of a sacrifice from Stephens. Freshman Kate Eshelman (Reno, NV / McQueen) drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly to center followed by another RBI single from Stevens that scored Hopkins. The inning continued with a hit batter before grad student Joy Gallagher (Hazleton, PA / Hazleton) joined the hitting with a RBI single up the middle to bring in Stevens.
Eight different players record a hit in the game for Wagner, including Stevens and Iwicki who had two each.
