Clearwater, FL - The Wagner College softball team ended their opening weekend of play at the Adidas Invitational this afternoon with an 11-3 loss to Indiana in five innings. The Seahawks head back to Staten Island at 2-4 on the year as the Hoosiers moved to 4-9.

After the Seahawks worked their way out of a bases loaded no out jam in the first, the Hoosiers dented the scoreboard in the second as they built up a 3-0 lead behind the strength of five singles. Indiana kept the small going in the third going on top 4-0 after two more singles and a stolen base.

Wagner fought back in the bottom of the third and made the count 4-2 when junior Katie Stevens (Reno, NV / Wooster) scored on a wild pitch and junior Victoria Batistelli (Huntington Beach, CA / Huntington Beach) came home on an error.

Rachel Terry would put the Hoosiers on top 6-2 in the fourth with a two run homer into right. In the bottom of the frame Batistelli plated freshmen Kate Eshelmen (Reno, NV / McQueen) with a ground rule double into right that left runners on second and third with two outs. A foul out to third would then kill the Seahawks rally.

The small ball was back for Indiana in the fifth as the Hoosiers put up five runs on six hits (five singles) to go up 11-3. Wagner then went in order in the last of the fifth to end the game.

Batistelli had two hits and reached base three times in the game. Senior Morgan Miller (Las Vegas, NV / Silverado) fell to 1-1 with the loss on the mound.

Wagner is back in action on Friday next week when they travel to the Rebel Games in Kissimmee, FL.
