Fairleigh Dickinson Defeats Wagner 67-49

Staten Island, NY - Another slow start doomed the Green & White as Fairleigh Dickinson extended Wagner's losing streak to 10 with a 67-49 win earlier today at the Spiro Sports Center. With the win the Knights clinch the No. 7 seed in the upcoming NEC Tournament in improving to 10-17 and 7-10 in the NEC. Wagner falls to 3-25 and 1-16 in the NEC.

Olivia Nagle (Acton, MA / Acton Boxborough) recorded for double-figures for the fourth-straight game going off for a game-high 19 points on just 6-8 shooting. The sophomore forward also was 7-8 from the charity stripe. Senior Jessie Collins (Crofton, MD / Arundel) had 11 points, six assists and four rebounds while sophomore Casey Stokes (Hummelstown, PA / Lower Dauphin) hit for six points to go along with five rebounds and four steals in a career-high 33 minutes to lead the backcourt.

For the second straight game Wagner came out of the gates ice cold as Fairleigh Dickinson sprinted out to an early 20-4 lead before Nagle hit two free throws. A pair of FDU baskets pushed the lead out to 18 before Collins and sophomore Laura Ahern (Succasunna, NJ / Roxbury) each drilled a three to make it 24-12 with 5:21 to go. The Knights would extend their lead back out to 15 at intermission at 30-15. Despite hitting on just 18.2 percent of their shots in the first the Green & White were able to stay within striking distance by limiting Fairleigh Dickinson to just 38.7 percent.

In the second half, the Seahawks shot a blistering 59.1 percent from the floor however the Knights were equally efficient as they hit on 56.0 percent of their shots. The Green & White cut the lead to 10 at the 7:31 mark after two Nagle free throws made it 47-37. Fairleigh Dickinson would answer with a Jordan Sykes jumper and a three from Shanay Freeman to push the lead back out to 15 on their way to a 67-49 win.

The Knights shot 46.4 percent for the game, including 7-15 from long-range, and parlayed 25 Wagner turnovers into 22 points. The Green & White was good on just 38.6 percent of their shots but managed to hit 6-16 from three-point range and 9-10 from the charity stripe.

Shanay Freeman led four double-digit scorers for the Knights with 18 points.

Wagner will wrap up their season on Monday at 7 pm against Saint Francis (PA).
