Early Two Goal Lead Not Enough, Colonials Nip Seahawks In Double Overtime, 3-2

Nov. 4, 2007

Box Score

Staten Island, NY - It looked like a fitting ending.

The lone senior captain, forward Danielle Telleria (Orlando, FL/Winter Springs), with a goal in her final collegiate game to lead her team to a win and a memorable end to a season that saw plenty of growing pains.

That's what it looked like when Telleria found the back of the net after a nifty move to get by a defender on the right side of the field after just ten minutes into the game.

It especially looked good after freshman midfielder Jessica Balling (Seaford, NY/MacArthur) put the Seahawks ahead by two goals with a score in the 55th minute on an assist by sophomore defender Stephanie Burnett (Cocoa Beach, FL/Satellite) on a wheel play off a free kick.

Robert Morris, however, had other ideas.

With less than twenty minutes remaining the Colonials would put on an offensive surge that would ultimately gain them a victory on a cold, crisp autumn day at Wagner College Stadium.

The momentum changed when Colonial forward Kelly Hilderbrand scored off an assist from midfielder Kathryn Kirkpatrick in the 73rd minute that cut the Seahawk lead by one and left the possibility tie well within the realm of possibility.

Unfortunately for the Seahawks, that realm was tapped not long thereafter when Robert Morris forward Brenda Sasu hooked up with midfielder Kathleen Caggiano with less than two minutes left in regulation for the first of her two scores on the afternoon which forced the extra period.

With everything a wash in the first ten minute period of overtime, a victor was crowned finally in the 106th minute when Sasu deposited a rebound for the game-winner off a magnificent diving save by Seahawk freshman goalkeeper Samantha Schueschner (Brookfield, CT/Brookfield) on a shot by Kirkpatrick.

The Seahawks finish up the 2007 season with a record of 1-7-1 in Northeast Conference play and 3-13-2 overall while Robert Morris finishes 4-3-1 in the NEC and 7-10-2 overall.
