Nov. 30, 2007

Box Score

Evanston, IL - Boston College (4-2) scored the first 18 points in a game-opening 25-4 run on the way to a 75-54 win over Wagner (2-3) in the first game of the Mildred and Roger L. White Invite. Sophomore Andrea Reed (Pocomoke City, MD / Pocomoke) and freshman Ashley Olsen (Staten Island, NY / Notre Dame Academy) led the Green & White with 14 points apiece.

The Boston College frontcourt duo of Stefanie Murphy and Carolyn Swords combined to score 20 of Eagles' first 22 points in their game-opening 25-4 run, before the Seahawks closed out the half with a 10-4 spurt of their own over the final 7:53. Sparking the Seahawks was the bench-play of Olsen, freshman Nyoto Patterson (Teaneck, NJ / Manhattan Center) and sophomore Naomi Augustin (Valley Stream, NY / Valley Stream Central), which scored all but two of the Seahawks' first-half points.

Despite going over 10 minutes without scoring and being outrebounded 29-16 in the first, the Seahawk-defense forced 12 turnovers, compared to just eight miscues, and were down just 29-14 at intermission.

The Eagles started the second stanza much like the first by scoring the first 11 points to extend their lead to 40-14 with 17:08 to play before Olsen quelled the run with her second three-point play of the game. Down 48-25 with 10:59 to go, Wagner ripped off a 13-3 run over the next 3:03 to slice the deficit to 51-38 with 7:56 remaining. The Seahawks would cut the lead to 13 on two more occasions but would not get any closer.

After going scoreless in the first, Reed led the second-half rally with 14 points.

The Seahawks shot a blistering 81.0 percent (17-21) from the charity stripe, despite hitting on just 28.1 percent (18-64) from the field. Wagner also forced a season-best 27 turnovers that led to a 22-14 advantage in points off turnovers.

Boston College shot 51.1 percent (24-47) from the floor and was paced by Murphy (28 points) and Swords (20 points, 10 rebounds). The duo also helped BC outrebound Wagner 52-27, leading to a 44-22 advantage in points in the paint.

The Green & White will take on Central Michigan tomorrow at 3:00 pm in the consolation game.
