Central Connecticut Sweeps Wagner 3-0

Staten Island, NY - The Wagner volleyball team fell by a 3-0 count to the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils at the Spiro Sports Center. CCSU won by scores of 30-15, 30-19 and 30-25.

The Blue Devils improve to 15-4 and 1-0 in the Northeast Conference (NEC) while the Seahawks move to 2-11 and 0-2 in the NEC.

The Blue Devils led from start to finish in the first two games, posting dominating 30-15 and 30-19 wins, respectively. In the third game, the Green & White and CCSU played to a virtual standstill for most of the match. With the score tied at 19-19, the Blue Devils busted off an 11-6 run to win the game 30-25. Despite the loss, Wagner hit a blistering .312 in the final game, led by Ashley Pepper's (Fr., Washington Court House, OH / Washington Senior) five kills, on .375 hitting, and Erin Henneberger's (Fr., Livonia, MI / Ladywood) four kills, on .571 hitting.

CCSU won the battle of the hitting (.326-.099) for the match and were aided by 13 aces compared to just two for the Seahawks.

Pepper led the way for the Green & White with 13 kills, on .065 hitting, with seven digs. Sophomore Alex Klein (Cresent Springs, KY / Notre Dame Academy) also had a solid match with eight kills, on .067 hitting, and a team-best 12 digs. Henneberger had a hitting percentage of .455 with five kills and seven assists to round out the top performers for Wagner.

Milou Saxton recorded 11 kills, on .846 hitting, and Lauren Snyder had 13 kills, on .400 hitting, to lead the way for CCSU.

The Seahawks return to action tomorrow at 2 pm when they host Sacred Heart.
