Ridge's Career-High 20 Boards Not Enough In 52-44 Loss To SFNY

Jan. 20, 2007

Box Score

Staten Island, NY - Junior Ali Ridge (Barrington, IL / Fremd) turned in another monster game with a career-high 20 rebounds to go along with six points but it wasn't enough as St. Francis (NY) defeated Wagner 52-44 in a defensive slugfest as both team shot below 40 percent for the game. With the loss Wagner falls to 3-16 and 1-7 in the NEC while the Terriers improve to 6-12 and 1-6 in the NEC.

Ridge's 20 rebounds are the most since Carrie Walker ripped down 20 against Lafayette on Dec. 3, 2003 and is just the second time since 1993 that a Wagner player has had 20 or more. She also helped the Green & White to a 43-35 advantage on the glass, including 20-12 on the offensive end,

Down 37-25 with 11:02 to go in the game, Takesha Dye (Boynton Beach, FL / Daytona Beach CC) scored five straight points before lay-ups from John'a Poole (Middle River, MD / Eastern Tech) and Andrea Reed (Pocomoke City, MD / Pocomoke) cut the lead to three at 37-34 with 6:33 to go in the game but that was as close as Wagner would get. The Terriers would answer with three free throws and a three pointer to push their lead back to nine. The Seahawks would continue to pressure on the Terriers down the stretch scoring on four of their final five possessions but SFNY was up to the task matching Wagner each time on their way to the 52-44 win.

The first half was a defensive slugfest as neither team could get much going save for a 7-0 Terrier run that proved to be the difference in SFNY staking claim to a 23-16 half-time lead. SFNY shot just 33.0 percent (10-30) from the floor however the Green & White struggled hitting just 25.9 percent (7-27) from the floor.

Junior Chelsey Bunyer (Shannon, IL / Eastland) had a team-best 11 points and six rebounds while Reed had eight points and four assists and Dye had nine points to round out the top performers for the Green & White.

The Seahawks managed to connect on just 30.0 percent (18-60) of their shots for the game while the Terriers hit only 37.0 percent (17-46), but were 15-24 from the line compared to just 7-8 for Wagner.

SFNY's 6-7 junior center Katja Bavendam led Terrier-attack with 15 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks.

Wagner has little time to rest as they play LIU on Monday at 5 pm in the first game of a men's-women's doubleheader that will also be aired on FSNY.
