Wagner Dominates Coppin State 3-0 To Conclude The Seahawk Invitational

STATEN ISLAND, NY - The Wagner College Seahawks (5-10) rebounded from last night's heartbreaker to thoroughly dominate Coppin State (2-12) by a count of 3-0 in the third and final match of the Seahawks Invite earlier this afternoon at the Spiro Sports Center. The Green & While pulled out the victory by scores of 33-31, 30-21 and 30-25.

Down 15-12 in the first game, the Seahawks flipped the script and went on a 17-8 run to go up by a margin of 29-23. However Coppin State rallied to go up 30-29. Senior Trish Morris (Queensland, Australia / St. Patrick's College) then rose to the challenge and had the last three Seahawk kills to help Wagner win 33-31.

The Seahawks took the second game rather easily as they outhit Coppin State .214-.088 and were led by sophomore Brandy Barnett (Claremont, CA / St. Lucy's Priory), who had seven kills on .875 hitting in the stanza.

In the third game, Wagner would not let up as they trailed only once in the game on their way to a convincing 30-25 win to take the match in three sets.

The Seahawks hit .200 for the match compared to just .150 for Coppin State. Wagner also had seven aces to the Eagles two.

Barnett led the way again for the Green & White with a game-high 16 kills on .452 hitting go along with six digs. Sophomore Kelly Kasper (West Windsor, NJ / Windsor Plainsboro South) had another strong offensive game with 13 kills on .348 hitting. Senior Lydia Emnott (Neenah, WI / Neenah) had a team-best 28 assists while freshman Gabi Hilk (Wilmington, DE / Alexis I. DuPont) added 12 assists. Senior Kerry Krohn (Massapequa, NY / Massapequa) had a team-best 11 digs to round out the Seahawks in double-figures.

Indira Laurencin had 14 kills and Brittany Arvin posted 10 kills to pace Coppin State.

Barnett and Kasper were named to the All-Tournament team. Representing Coppin State was Indira Laurencin, Brittany Arvin and Andrea McGant. Rounding out the All-Tournament team were Serra Soylu and Tara Teslaa of Saint Peter's.

Wagner returns to action on Wednesday, October 4 when they welcome UCONN to the Spiro Sports Center for a 7 pm tilt.
