Poughkeepsie, NY -- The Wagner College women's water polo team defeated the Terriers of St. Francis (NY) in MAAC water polo play 10-7, earlier today in a game held at Marist College. The victory moves Wagner to 18-12 on the year and 3-0 in conference. A balanced scoring attack helped Wagner earn their second comeback victory in as many days.
It was a slow first half offensively for Wagner as St. Francis posted a 3-2 lead after two periods of play. However the Seahawks would outscore the Terriers 8-4 in the second half to pick up the win. The offense was led by junior Stacey Travous (New Ulm, MN/Cumberland Valley) who logged two goals, three assists, and drew three ejections. Classmates Natasha Peterson (Whittier, CA/La Habra) and Anne Wolkenhauer (Fullerton, CA/Fullerton Union) each added two goals as well.
The scoring did not stop there as Wagner received a goal apiece from sophomores Billy Hoelck (San Diego, CA/U. of San Diego HS) and Camille Karimzad, (Walnut Creek, CA/Campolindo) and freshmen Nicole Maichrowicz (Temple City, CA/Temple City) and Alexandra Tomlinson (Telford, PA/Souderton). Maichrowicz also added three steals while Tomlinson contributed with an assist.
In net Katie Hauck (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) was solid prohibiting seven Terrier shots while dishing out one assist and making a steal.
