NEW BRITAIN, CT - The Wagner College Seahawks dropped their getaway game with Central Connecticut State 13-4 earlier today at Balf-Savin Field as the Seahawks were done in by two big innings of seven and five runs, respectively. The two teams split a doubleheader on Saturday, April 22.
The Seahawks had their chances as they stranded 11 runners, including two bases loaded situations in the fourth and sixth innings.
Both teams are now 7-5 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play while CCSU improves to 21-10 overall and Wagner falls to 8-27.
Senior Nick Papa (Freehold, NJ / Freehold) continued his hot play of late, going 2-5 with a run-scoring triple and a double. Down 8-0 in the top of the sixth, the Seahawks plated two runs on the strength of four hits and a walk, but were unable to do anymore damage as they left the bases loaded.
CCSU put the game on ice in the bottom of the seventh as they struck for five more runs to make it 13-2. The Green & White would add two runs in the top of the ninth, but would do no more damage as the Blue Devils won 13-4.
