Seahawks Silence Siena 11-5, Move to 8-0 in MAAC Play

April 22, 2006

Stats

Staten Island, NY - Like Mark Morrison it was the return of the MAAC to the pool at the Spiro Sports Center this Saturday. Six games took place on the day with the nightcap being the Wagner College Seahawk women's water polo team taking on the Siena Saints. Wagner used the opportunity to honor their two seniors; Sara Kramer (Carlisle, PA/Cumberland Valley) and Courtney Crase (Saratoga, CA/Saratoga). Then they used the game to pick up their eighth straight victory, knocking off the Saints 11-5 to remain in first place in the MAAC at 8-0 with an overall record of 23-12.

For the second straight game the Green & White used a high-powered first half to put their opponent away. The Seahawks blitzed the Saints with seven first half goals and were holding a five goal advantage at intermission. Siena would battle back with three-second half goals, but Wagner would respond with four of their own as they cruised to the win.

Three different players scored three goals each for Wagner and like Robert Frost that made all the difference. Freshman Alexandra Tomlinson (Telford, PA/Souderton) used her fast swimming skills to get open on several fast break opportunities on the way to her three goals. The senior Crase opened up shop in front of the net and put home three goals of her own for a total of nine on the day. Finally, sophomore Billy Hoelck (San Diego, CA/U. of San Diego HS) made it rain from downtown with three long-range goals to her credit. Other scorers for the Seahawks included junior Stacey Travous (New Ulm, MN/Cumberland Valley) and Nicole Maichrowicz (Temple City, CA/Temple City).

Once gain junior Katie Hauck (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) made the start in net detaining seven Saint shots while allowing just three goals. Freshman Jennifer Anderson (Whittier, CA/La Serna) also saw time in net declining two shots while permitting two goals to enter the cage.

The Seahawks are back in action tomorrow afternoon in MAAC play when they will take on Iona and Villanova. The games are being held in New Rochelle, New York with the first contest against the Gaels beginning at noon.
